The Founder of the world class private University which is popularly described by Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti the National University Commission as a Reference point and Benchmark, Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) has told the management of Odu’a Investments to support the development of University education in Nigeria. He made the clarion call at the University Campus in Ado-Ekiti while receiving the Group Managing Director of Oodu’a Investments, Mr. Adebayo Jimoh who led top members of his management team to the University on a courtesy visit. The Founder enumerated areas that needed the support and cooperation of the conglomerate to include granting of scholarships, endowing chairs for academic excellence, corporate sponsorships, infrastructure and staff developments. Aare Afe Babalola explained the rationale for establishing the University as a way of dedicating his life to humanity. He said, “Not everything that can be counted, counts and not everything that counts, can be counted”. Aare explained that love, cooperation support, amity and friendship count so much but they cannot be counted like medals. He reminded the Oodu’a Group to extend their social responsibilities to private institutions in the owner States. While tracing the history of the group, he pointed out that he contributed his quota to the existence and development of the group. He therefore called on well meaning Nigerians to ensure the survival of the conglomerate. Aare Afe Babalola reiterated his commitment to make ABUAD compete favourably with its peers all over the world in terms of faculty and facilities. He mentioned that the introduction of new courses and preference for leadership and entrepreneurial skill are indications that at ABUAD, We Mean Business. He announced that the first set of graduands of the school will graduate in 2013 at a record of three and a half years instead of four years. He founder advised students to be more steadfast and dedicated to their studies adding that Certificate from ABUAD will be based on performance and character. He used the opportunity to thank the NUC for approving new courses for the University and therefore called on Oodu’a to look for ways of partnering with ABUAD in producing skilled Youths for the nation. Aare Afe Babalola expressed appreciation to parent States of the Investments for appointing Mr. Adebayo Jimoh as its Group Managing Director at this period of global recession. He described Mr. Jimoh as a seasoned administrator with wide experience and capabilities needed to lead the company to greater heights. Responding, the Group Managing Director Mr. Adebayo Jimoh thanked the Founder of ABUAD Aare Afe Babalola (SAN) for his kind words and belief in his capabilities. He affirmed his company’s position as a progressive thought leader in supporting transformatory University educational system as championed by Aare Afe Babalola. Mr. Jimoh expressed his groups readiness to partner with ABUAD in various areas of endeavour. The GMD announced that the partnership will include provision of a space at the newly completed Shopping Mall in Ibadan to exhibit products from ABUAD, extensive support for the e-library with additional incentives from O’Net Communications, Other were Linkage Programmes with the Farmers Academy in Awe, and collaborative efforts with the Skill Acquisition Centre at Ado-Ekiti, aimed at boosting the entrepreneurial courses in ABUAD. He announced that some ABUAD students will be granted scholarships adding that about 620 indigent students had benefited so far in “the Nurture, the leaders of tomorrow scheme”. On foundation, Mr. Jimoh promised to support ABUAD while calling on the University to involve his conglomerate in internship trainings for qualified ABUAD students. The GMD landed the efforts of the Founder, Aare Afe Babalola for giving out what the society did not give to him. He thanked him for educating Nigerians through his weekly column “You and the law” published weekly in the Nigerian Tribune. He commended the management and staff for their dedication to duties and urged them to keep the flag flying. Contributing, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sidi Osho thanked the GMD and his entourage for visiting ABUAD to experience first hand, how University education is being transformed. She explained that ABUAD graduates will be agent of change in the society. She specifically mentioned their multi-lingua skills and the leadership trainings as areas that will stand them out in the crowd. Prof. Osho thanked the Oodu’a Investment Group for all the promises made and urged them to facilitate its realization as soon as possible.
