The Vice-Chancellor of the increasingly famous Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, ABUAD, has lauded the exceptional efforts of the University Community in ensuring a smooth, successful and enriching Academic Session thus far.
The Vice-Chancellor in her happy tone expressed thus “I am pleased to report that this Academic Session has progressed smoothly; this is due to good coordination and collective efforts of our various esteemed Departments/Units, Colleges, dedicated Staff Members, and, of course, the unwavering commitment of our students to their studies. The campus was abuzz with academic programmes exchange, national and international stimulating dialogue, research activities and an environment full of vibrancy - a true signature of any robust academia.
For those that are still writing their examinations and to our final year students who just completed their examinations, I extend my heartfelt congratulations on reaching this significant milestone. I know that examination periods are usually tasking and demanding, but our students have always demonstrated remarkable resilience and perseverance in navigating through, successfully”.

At the forefront of these remarkable achievements stand the University’s esteemed Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elisabeta Smaranda Olarinde FCArb, FCAI, one, whose visionary leadership and unwavering dedication have propelled the institution to unprecedented heights.
Under Prof. E. Smaranda’s stewardship, ABUAD has witnessed a surge in groundbreaking research endeavours, garnering international acclaims and pushing the boundaries of knowledge across diverse disciplines. The University’s college and students have been at the forefront of pioneering discoveries, contributing to the advancement of scientific understanding and driving innovations that have not only elevated the institution’s global reputation but have also fostered an environment where intellectual curiosity and innovation thrive. No wonder that the world-class citadel of learning got ranked by the highly respected US-based Times Higher Education Impact Rankings as the Number 1 University in Nigeria for two consecutive years (2022 & 2023) and Number 221 in the world in 2023.
Beyond Academic pursuits, the Vice-Chancellor has championed social responsibilities and community engagements, ensuring that the University’s impact extends far beyond its campus boundaries. Numerous outreach programmes and partnerships (MOU) have been established, addressing pressing societal challenges and contributing to the betterment of local and global communities.
Notably, the National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners (NAAIP), a body established on the 6th of May, 2024, to enhance the provision of educational resources to accelerate the responsible and ethical use of AI, support research on AI matters, and strengthen education at all levels in Nigeria, couldn't help but crane their necks and lower their gaze in order to catch a glimpse of the CEO’s remarkable leadership.
Essentially, on the 6th of May, 2024, Prof. E. Smaranda’s remarkable leadership conspicuously set the stage for continued excellence during the momentous inauguration ceremony of its Founding Chartered Members of the National Association of Artificial Intelligence Practitioners (NAAIP),where Professor E. Smaranda Olarinde was appointed as the Vice-President for South-West, Nigeria.
While wishing the students well in their endeavours, she said: “My beloved students, as you prepare to embark on your well-deserved break, I wish you a safe and rejuvenating journey back home. Take this time to recharge your batteries, spend quality time with loved ones, and reflect on the experiences and lessons learned during the just concluded 2023/2024 Academic Session. Do not forget that your academic journey is more than the sum of its parts, every step you take will benefit you in ways that are still unimaginable. Take full benefit, spread your wings and keep on flying higher and higher”.
She further encouraged students who will continue their studies during the break, the “extension learners” to maintain their focus and dedication while also carving out moments of respite to nurture their overall well-being.
Finally, she said: “I extend my congratulations on your outstanding accomplishments and I hope you all have a safe and fun-filled break. I look forward to welcoming you back to campus for the next Academic Session commencing September 23rd, 2024, as we provide continued opportunities for learning and discoveries.
