OUR CALENDAR REMAINS INTACT: VICE-CHANCELLOR

The Vice-Chancellor, Professor E.S. Olarinde on Friday expressed the readiness of the institution to receive students back to the campus immediately after the elections on Saturday. She stated this after inspecting facilities and submitting her report to Council the day before.  She maintained that the second-semester calendar remains intact, in spite of the forced holiday imposed on the university as a result of the recently concluded general elections. Lamenting such a scenario, she stated that while Afe Babalola University was not opposed to the civic exercise as it is indeed a cardinal process of the democratization process but shutting down the entire country and particularly institutions of learning was needless. She said, that “it was now imperative for Nigeria and its citizens to ensure that elections as fundamental as it is to the democratic process should not be allowed to impede socio-economic activities” as this was not how modern democracies are conducted.

She assured parents and particularly the students that all hands were on deck to ensure that the academic calendar is vigorously pursued in a manner that the weeks lost to the election cycle is redeemed within the shortest possible time. She thanked the Founder and Chancellor, Aare Afe Babalola, for his usual support and enormous sacrifices, and the teaching and none teaching staff for their usual cooperation. Professor Olarinde expressed satisfaction with preparations on the ground to receive the students who are expected to start arriving on the campus from Monday.

Advising the students, she enjoined them “to return to school timely as lectures will commence immediately with tests and other activities proceeding as scheduled”. She wished them a safe and pleasurable experience as they return to school stating that the school was prepared to receive them back from the election-induced holidays.

Thank you.
