Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD) was established as a world-class model tertiary centre of excellence for educating and training students to become responsible members of the society. At its inception, ABUAD’s mission vigorously asserted a result-oriented institution aimed at producing highly skilled, self-reliant and socially relevant graduates – an idea that became an embracing culture of the institution.
In recognition of its commitment to first-rate academic activity and to real-world solutions, the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria - CPN) decided to recognise ABUAD as the first Centre of Excellence in Cyber Security, Science & Research in Nigeria.
The Centre will make ABUAD the hub for wide-ranging, eclectic and cross-disciplinary research into computer-related crimes and their solutions within and outside Nigeria. The Centre will operate in association with private and public bodies interested in ABUAD position as a leader in cybercrime mapping and training of crime analysts, as well as in providing advice and training to the professionals, public bodies and governments throughout Africa. In addition, the Centre will also engage in a range of research initiatives, including hosting seminars, lectures, workshops and conferences, and publishing in and editing journals, authoring books on cyber security that would be made accessible to both national and international audience.
The Centre of Excellence will be appropriately positioned to consult and research into varying degrees of cyber security challenges for governments, private entrepreneurs including the banking and financial system, legal sector and other stakeholders whose businesses are related to cyber security.
We are confident that the challenges of cyber insecurity bedevilling the emergent world of information and communication technology will find relative solution through the research activities of this Centre.
We enjoin all of you as stakeholders in the activities of this Centre to join forces with the ABUAD to support the activities of this Centre in all ways possible both now and in the future.
