The torrential rainfall of accreditation that has been the lot of Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has continued to fall with the recent accreditation of the University’s Accounting programme.

This cheering news came vide ICAN’s February 5, 2014 letter with Reference No. TCAN/SE&T/33/2014 and addressed to the University’s Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ajisafe.

The letter signed by the Institute’s Assistant Director (Students’ Education and Training), Mrs. Folake Olawuyi, said inter alia: “We are pleased to inform you that the Council of the Institute has approved the Accounting programme of your University. The accreditation if for the duration of four academic sessions with effect from 2013/2014 to 2016/2017”.

Olawuyi added: “To give effect to the approval of Council, the presentation of Accreditation Certificate will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 for which your institution would be required to send two representatives. Please accept our congratulations and Institute’s high regards for your institution”.

Thus ABUAD will be part of ICAN’s presentation and recognition certificates to Tertiary Institutions and Tuition Centres that have met the minimum standards set by the Council for the Award of Accreditation Certificates on April 23, 2014 at the Institute’s Annexe Office at Ebute Metta in Lagos.

 Before now, the university has been accorded the following accreditations:

On June 17, 2013, ABUAD scored 100% NUC accreditation in the 14 programmes, to wit: Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Anatomy, Physiology, Law, Biochemistry, Human Biology, Microbiology, Economics, Media and Communication Studies, Tourism and Events Management, Nutrition and Dietetics and Computer Science.

On July 1, the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), the professional body responsible for accrediting computer programmes in Nigeria, accredited ABUAD’s Computer programme.

The beauty of this professional accreditation is that it affords the university’s Computer Science students the opportunity to run their degree and professional programmes simultaneously. This affords them the opportunity to graduate with two different certificates, one academic and the other professional.

On July 9, 2013, COREN accredited all the seven Engineering courses being offered by the university. The programmes are: Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Petroleum Engineering as well as Mechatronics Engineering.

On November 6, 2013, the Council for Legal Education did not only accord the University’s Law programme full accreditation, it went ahead to increase its admission quota from 80 to 180 in appreciation of the faculty and the huge investment put in place in the College. This goes a long way in affirming NUC’s earlier position that: “The University Law College is certainly the best in West Africa”.

Definitely, more accreditations are still on the way, judging by the huge investments the Founder, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, is daily and tirelessly putting in place.

Addendum: Incidentally, the Best graduating student among the pioneer students who graduated on October 21, 2013, Miss Adesola Akomolafe, was from Accounting Department.
